Getting the Arenas Ready for Alpha
Five curated maps, restored S&D destruction, recorded wall-jump routes for the bots, and a new sound bank. The preparation release before v0.9.33's public alpha.
Five Maps for the Next Step
This release brings together the maps, media and bot routes for the upcoming public alpha in v0.9.33.
Three maps shared by Duel and FFA, the original Amphi arena restored as Washoi Amphi1, and Concrete Strike as Washoi S&D1. Five curated maps across four modes, with their previews packaged for the lobby and loading screens.
Yes, the Site Actually Blows Up
Concrete Strike's explosive structures are back, including the missing reactor geometry. Detonation removes the targeted structures and their collision after their authored delays, throws debris, and restores the intact layout next round.
Late joiners receive the objective state too. New demos record it in format v6, while recordings from formats v1 through v5 still play.
Defending bots hold balanced site assignments and start retaking as soon as the bomb is placed. Planting and defusing take priority over chasing an enemy or shopping for armor. Even bots need to remember what game they are playing.
We Showed the Bots the Jumps
The movement routes in this build were learned from recorded runs and checked by replaying them through the game's own movement.
DM2 now has 77 learned routes. DM5 gains 46 verified routes, including 11 wall jumps; DM11 gains 47, including 10 wall jumps. S&D gains 28 routes, three of them wall jumps.
Those numbers count saved routes after duplicate merging, not every attempt in the recordings. Each DM5 and DM11 saved script also passed an additional replay check. The bots have homework, and somebody marked it.
It Looks and Sounds Like Washoi
DM2 wears a gold Washoi sign and floor badge. DM5 and DM11 have new arena posters and billboards, while keeping their animated displays and teleporter signage. The maps retain their existing BSP geometry and texture paths.
The sound bank has been replaced, with credited weapon recordings and new player, world and announcer cues. Clip reloads get a mechanical cue; a confirmed kill gets its own echo. Gameplay settings let you choose Male, Female or Bobot voices for your side and the opposition, including the players you watch in demos and spectator mode.
There are smaller changes you should notice without having to read about them: a larger scoreboard, a clear red X when the equipped weapon is empty, and a return from a completed match to the main Play screen.
There are also fixes you should never have had to notice: corrected normal-map conversion, restored projectile media, and close-wall plasma splash that actually hurts its shooter.
Next: the Public Alpha
v0.9.32 assembles the arenas. v0.9.33 will be the first public alpha, with developer mode disabled in the production browser build.
